Q: Why are you replacing the windows?It’s part of our ongoing commitment to ensure Toronto-Dominion Centre remains at the forefront of corporate real estate. It will provide a fresher, more energy efficient and more modern look to your office environment.
Q: What is so special about the new windows?All of the new windows are double pane, insulated glass units (IGUs). They are low-e, Argon filled, and will be tinted bronze to keep with Mies van der Rohe’s original architectural design.
Q: What benefit will it be to me?Better energy efficiency, reducing heat gain during the summer and heat loss during the winter.
Q: Who is paying for this?The project is largely non-recoverable from tenants. CF is investing in the Toronto-Dominion Centre.
Q: How are you physically going to do this?All work will be done from the inside, using a “white glove” technique. We will be removing the current single pane window from the inside and replacing it with a double pane window.
Q: Will it be noisy?We will begin work on all vacant floors, so it should not affect the noise in your office.
Q: Will I be able to see out of my window?Yes, absolutely. There will be a swing stage outside, at floor level, which will look very similar to a window washer swing stage.
Q: When will the work be undertaken?We will work on the vacant floors during the day and occupied floors during the evening, when the tenants are not there.
Q: What about security?When your window is replaced, there will be a security guard there at all times, plus additional cleaning and maintenance staff will be on hand.
Q: How much notice will I get?A detailed work schedule will be made available to you and we will post updates on the website (

Q: Are you doing certain floors at a time?We are starting with all vacant floors and we will provide regular updates and post a schedule on our website.
Q: How will it encumber my staff and visitors?From time to time, there will be minimal disruption.
Q: Why are you adding window shades?In conjunction with the window replacement, a new manual roller shade (Mecho Shade) will be installed. The shade (and the new double pane glass window) provides an energy efficient window system. Manual shades allow the tenant to control the amount of light and/or shade in their environment. It will also provide a fresher, more modern look to your office environment.
Q: How long will it take? Per window, per floor?It will take about two weeks per floor.

The LEED for Existing Buildings rating system helps building owners and operators improve operational efficiency and address environmental considerations affecting daily operations.
Q: What else are you doing to the TD Centre?The windows and shades are the beginning of a revitalization program encompassing architectural and infrastructural elements including mechanical upgrades, interior and exterior upgrades, and new artwork.
Q: What happens with all old glass?All of the removed panes of glass and materials will be recycled. Our construction procedures will follow LEED guidelines.
